Wilson Q&A: veterans housed and placement timelines

New York City Council · Sep 18, 2026 · starts 1:04:53 · 57 sec

Wilson asks how many veterans are being worked with for housing and typical placement timelines. Smalls reports 209 veterans housed in FY26, the highest since the agency's inception, with typical timelines of three to six months depending on documentation like DD-214 availability.

Carl Wilson

How many veterans are you working with for housing assistance?

Donee' Smalls

Right now, I will have to get back to you with that number.

Donee' Smalls

Yes.

Donee' Smalls

What I can tell you is how many veterans that we house for FY26, we house over 209 veterans, which was the agency's most, the highest number that they house since conception.

Carl Wilson

And what's the typical time frame from someone who comes to your intake and then gets placed in housing?

Donee' Smalls

That number, the amount of time can vary depending on documentation.

Donee' Smalls

If a veteran has documentation, sometimes a veteran might come, they don't have the DD-214, so that might take a little bit longer.

Donee' Smalls

So it could take anywhere between three to six months to house a veteran.
