Dinowitz says principals lack information and asks for concrete examples
Dinowitz says dozens of principals he has spoken with do not know what to do beyond saying their school has CTE or seal programs. Giunta acknowledges there is ambiguity while state guidance evolves and says DOE is socializing the four transformations and six attributes.
Thank you.
We've also been joined by Council Member Brewer.
Say hello.
I got to say, you use the phrase like the principals are sharing with, you know, their, I guess, SLTs.
I don't know if you use that phrase, but principals are sharing with SLTs.
I got to tell you, I've spoken to dozens upon dozens of principals.
None of them know.
Like what they're doing.
They have ideas.
They have, well, we're a CTE school.
We have CTE programs.
So I think we're well positioned.
We offer the seal of civic readiness.
So I think we have that element, but they don't have information to share.
So can you share some of the conversations that you think principals are having or that you know principals are having with what this portrait actually looks like?
I think when we're talking about the work that we've done with our principals has been around what is this, what does this mean, what is the timeline, and really making sure that that is what is getting out.
The questions you're asking will go back to your opening statement about like practice.
in the classroom, what has to change right now.
And that is, you know, we are partnering so closely with the state on what their next iteration of resources and guidance will be so that we can make sure that we are in full alignment.
In the meantime, we have these great examples across our system from Dr.
Chang's old district.
And especially Superintendent Prayer, who sat not only on the Blue Ribbon Commission, but is bringing this to life amongst his schools.
I would be surprised if you're hearing from his principals, but I don't want to be naive and say that every single one of our principals has the depth of knowledge of what needs to change or not and when.
That is what we're working, we are focused with them right now on socializing what the four transformations are, what the six attributes are, what they need to know for this year,
what is up next that will guide where we are going next that they will then need to know.
So there is a space right now that I think there is a little ambiguity because we are watching this process evolve.
But we know that where we want to really lean into is around our SEALs, around our endorsements, around the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, especially leaning into the performance-based assessments that Dr.
Chang is an expert on.
Would you like to add any more color to that?
