Chair Hudson asks about common reasons for CityFHEPS package returns
Hudson asks what causes package rejections. French says outright denials are rare and most issues are returns for corrections, often due to document errors or income ineligibility, and says DSS can look at publishing return reasons.
And what are the most common reasons for rejections of CityFEP's packages?
I mean, I'll let the executive deputy commissioner weigh in there as well.
I think it's more of returns versus outright rejections necessarily, right?
There may be people who ultimately are not eligible for city FEPS at that point.
So that would, in theory, be a rejection.
But I think much of it is really more about what are the causes for returns, which the executive deputy commissioner team have also done.
I'll boast for her.
Great work to really start to turn the tide on the amount of returns that are going on with our providers.
Thank you.
Just for you.
Sorry.
Thank you for that question, Council Member.
As Administrator mentioned, it's very rare that we see denial at the point where applications are submitted.
It's the return that's delayed.
For an application to be denied, it's because someone is employed and now they're over income or something like that.
Very rare does it get to the point where it comes to us and get denied.
Once it's submitted, it's because you're eligible and it's just making sure the documents are correct.
Okay, do you think it's possible to publish the most common reason that we see denial at the point where applications are submitted?
for rejections each year to improve overall submission accuracy.
We can look for that.
It's the return that's delayed.
And I mean, it's really tiny.
Yeah.
But yeah.
For an application to be denied,
Yes.
I think just for clarity, though, are you, is it rejections you're looking for or is it return reasons that you're looking for?
It's because someone is employed and now they're over income or something like that.
Very rare does it get to the point where it comes to us and get denied.
Well, return reasons.
Yeah.
Okay.
If that's where the rejections are.
Once it's submitted, it's because you're eligible and it's just making sure the documents are correct.
Well, ineligibility.
Okay, do you think it's possible to publish the most common reason?
Okay, ineligibility.
All right, so we can look at that, yes.
Okay.
