Estrada describes asbestos test and calls for faster repairs and funding
Estrada says NYCHA developments suffer from roach and rodent issues and need more repair funding and clarity for tenants. He describes testing a cracked floor for a resident and getting a positive asbestos result after a months-long work order delay.
I would just like to say that
NITRA needs more funding to repairs and also needs more clarity to the individual tenants that live in NITRA developments.
From my personal experience, I have done a lot of things with Queensbridge houses, Astoria houses, and Ravenswood houses.
And I have seen quite a number of repairs that have not gone repaired in months.
One of the most shocking things that I have experienced was this girl who lived in her apartment.
And unfortunately, her floor was cracked.
And underneath those cracks was asbestos.
I bought a test kit for her.
And I tested it myself and it came out positive for asbestos.
It is clear that, I mean, she put in the work order and she didn't get it until months later.
I feel like we need to be more quick with repairs.
It shouldn't really take this long, especially with something as minor as cabinets to something as serious as asbestos.
Thank you so much.
I yield my time.
Thank you.
We'll now go to, and thank you for your testimony.
We will now go to Patricia.
