Layla Law-Gisiko raises Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea maintenance failures amid demolition
Layla Law-Gisiko identifies herself as Democratic District Leader for Chelsea and says she is testifying about Fulton Houses and Elliott-Chelsea Houses. She says buildings slated for demolition still need basic maintenance and that NYCHA and partners have failed to respond.
Thank you so much.
Good afternoon, Mr.
Chair, members of the City Council.
My name is Leila Logiziko, and I am the Democratic District Leader representing Chelsea.
And I'm here today to speak specifically about the conditions at Fulton Houses and Elio Chelsea Houses and about what appears to be an increasingly dangerous gap between NYCHA's obligations on paper and what residents are experiencing on the ground.
These buildings, as many of you know, are slated for demolition despite massive and continued opposition from tenants as well as the broader Chelsea community.
These buildings have not ceased to be people's homes.
And yet, NITRA and its development partner-related properties have failed to provide adequate response to basic maintenance.
