Aldebol asks about SBS hiring halls advertising and agency participation
Aldebol asks how DCAS and SBS advertise career fairs and which agencies participate; Otar says SBS manages events, DCAS amplifies, and many agencies participate.
Collaboration with small business services on hiring halls.
I had the pleasure of attending the citywide disability career fair in Queens over the summer, where we saw a vast number of agencies who were there to conduct interviews and offer job placements.
It was a great turnout for applicants seeking employment.
What are the specific channels through which DCAS and SBS are advertising the date and time of these career fairs beyond public postings?
So, as you know, SBS is the one that manages those hiring events.
We support in amplifying the information and participating when available.
So we share that information when available in our newsletters.
We share them on our, we have a career, an event page on the DCAS job board.
So we'll post it there.
And then we also have the DCAS specific recruitment page where we'll post information there.
So we help to amplify the information as much as possible and then participate to share information about city jobs when possible.
Since 2024, the Department of Small Business Services has facilitated hiring halls for New Yorkers and connected thousands of applicants with employment opportunities.
Are there any city agencies that participate in these hiring halls?
We do know that there are a lot of city agencies that participate, but that is managed on the SBS side of things.
How frequently does DCAS meet with SBS and the Office for Talent and Workforce Development to collaborate on future hiring events and outreach?
And do the three agencies, entities conduct recruitment separately, or are there examples of...
Where all three are involved in public outreach together.
So we work with all, both SBS and talent separately.
For talent, we engage with the Career Pathways Program.
That's the main part of the work that they do.
So how can we enhance the programs that we have?
How can we think about other opportunities for the programs?
With SBS, we work with them in a couple of different ways, which we just mentioned with the IRON events.
We're helping to amplify the information.
We may be there providing information sessions during their actual career fair.
And then we also work with SBS where we go to the Workforce One Center like eight times a month, whether it's in person or virtually to make sure that we're reaching their population.
So depending, and I know SBS, very excitingly, they've opened a new job center.
And so we're in conversations with them now about how we can partner to further amplify and reach individuals that are interested in city government and agency partnership as well.
