Q&A

Aldebol asks about tracking PSC interns entering civil service

New York City Council · Sep 22, 2026 · starts 1:18:05 · 56 sec

Aldebol asks how many PSC interns entered civil service; Otar says it's difficult to track due to the program's nature and they are focusing on building continuation.

Shirley Aldebol

Over the last five years, how many PSC interns entered into civil service after graduating college?

Katie Ann Otar

So that number is a little bit difficult to track just because of the nature of the program.

Katie Ann Otar

As I mentioned, somebody may just be with us for a semester because that's all their grant, allow them to stay, or they may come back and alternate between the timeline.

Katie Ann Otar

So we don't really know when they graduate.

Katie Ann Otar

We don't really know if they're going to qualify to participate again.

Katie Ann Otar

And so that's why we're focusing on how do we build that continuation, where even if they're not participating in Public Service Corps, they still have an opportunity to work for city government in the other programs that we have.

Shirley Aldebol

Yeah, is there any thought to figuring out a way to track that?

Shirley Aldebol

Because I think it's super important to understand.

Shirley Aldebol

The true impact of this program in the long term.

Katie Ann Otar

Absolutely.
