Brewer asks Schiffrin about other countries' communication practices
Brewer asks whether England, the EU, or Canada use Signal or communicate differently; Schiffrin says the Signal group was an accidental finding and her research focused on influencers promoting government programs, noting Canada debates whether influencers must be paid to require disclosure and what the threshold should be.
Thank you very much.
Just a couple of questions.
When you're talking about England or EU or any of those other Canada, are they also using a signal or other type of communication, do you know, or is it done differently?
So the research that I was doing, I mean, the signal group was sort of an accidental finding for me.
The research that I was doing was actually on influencers who are promoting information about government programs.
And what's so interesting about some of this, I was just looking at Canada, you know, one of the debates is, do the influencers need to be paid in order to be told to disclose?
So I think that would be a real question for us, you know, is what is our bar?
Is it number of followers?
Is it how often you're posting?
Is it how much money you're making?
Is it whether you're getting a gift or a trip?
Is it, you know, the actual content of the message?
So I think all of those will need to be sort of considered when you think about regulation.
