Brewer asks what persistent relationship disclosures mean
Brewer asks what Schiffrin means by disclosures of persistent relationships; Schiffrin explains journalists covering City Hall apply for press passes, and asks whether groups regularly receiving and reporting information are like journalists and whether some registration or training requirement should apply, noting the U.S. tradition against licensing.
Okay.
What do you mean by disclosures of persistent relationships?
What does that mean to you?
So, again, as I mentioned, you know, journalists that cover City Hall have a press pass, which they apply for.
So if there are groups of people that are getting information on a regular basis and then reporting out that information, are they like the journalists?
Do we need to then think?
about some sort of, you know, traditionally in this country, press freedom groups, newspapers, the profession has been very much against licensing, whereas in Europe you would have rules about, you know, did you go to this journalism school?
How much training have you had?
Then you can get a press pass.
That has not been the American way.
But I think, as someone mentioned earlier, you know, this is new forms of communication, and so clearly regulation hasn't caught up.
So I think these are all things we can really think about.
