Wong asks whether influencers and traditional media have equal access
Wong says traditional media and influencers appear to get different press statements and that influencers sometimes get information first, asking whether they should have equal access; Schiffrin says this is 'anecdata' and that Rowland told her influencers get the same press releases as journalists, calling for further study.
Councilmember Wong?
Okay, thank you, Chair.
My question is access.
Like traditional media, it seemed to me that they're getting the different set of press statements from, say, from the mayor's office.
While the influencers getting a separate set of feeds from Emilia Roland.
So it seemed to me they don't have equal access.
And some, I even heard that the influencers got hold of information way before the...
Traditional reporters did.
So my question is, should they have equal access if there's any activity coming from the mayor's office?
And why are they not getting the same access?
Yes, well, I think you raise a very important point.
And, you know, in academia, we would call this anecdata.
We don't have a full, you know, we don't.
don't have a full picture of what's going on.
We have anecdotes that are certainly concerning.
I was told, I think it was by Hamad in a text message, that there are more briefings for journalists than there are for influencers.
And I was just told Saturday by Amelia in a text message that basically the influencers are given the same press releases as journalists.
