Brewer introduces Office of Mass Engagement and hearing goals
Brewer explains the mayor created the Office of Mass Engagement on his second day, absorbing the Community Affairs Unit, Public Engagement Unit, ethnic media office, faith-based partnerships, and NYC Service, and states the hearing will examine FOIL and archiving issues.
In addition to finding out about the mayor's use of the social media influencers and the signal app, we are also going to hear from the mayor's newly created Office of Mass Engagement.
On Justice's second day in office, the mayor created this office, which, according to the mayor, was intended to create a connection between City Hall and everyday New Yorkers.
This office replaced the Community Affairs Unit, the Public Engagement Unit, the Mayor's Office of Ethnic and Community Media,
The Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships and the New York City Service were all placed under this new office as well, although I think one of them may have moved over to communications.
While the work of OME is consistent with the work of the Public Engagement Unit, which now reports to it, it has a greater emphasis on connecting with New Yorkers
and engaging them in governmental processes while also making sure that they are aware of their rights as New Yorkers.
New Yorkers need to know what their benefits are, and this office helps to do that.
We would like to find out more how this office works and how it differs from the mayor's outreach during the election campaign.
We also want to hear about any legislation that they might suggest on this topic.
And obviously we want to know about FOIL, and we want to know about archiving from DARIS.
Those are the issues that I desperately care about.
