Ocean D. Waves urges city to preserve trans and queer history
Ocean D. Waves says government should stop erasing trans and queer history, citing the removal of a Marsha P. Johnson monument. Cabán agrees and discusses increasing representation, monuments, and funding for queer and trans artists.
Is there anybody else?
Go ahead.
Something that I would like to see changed government-wise is for the government to stop erasing trans and queer history.
There was a Marsha P.
Johnson monument, and they took that down, and they pretend like trans people or queer people just don't exist, and we do.
We always have throughout time, throughout history.
And erasing our history doesn't erase the people.
So I and just us as a collective would really appreciate if people put focus on history, transgender and queer history, because that's important.
We need it to move forward.
And I really, really appreciate that.
It's obviously part of the playbook, and that's well heard.
And it's something we're pursuing to make sure that we are increasing the number of representation in our cultural institutions, that we're adding more monuments, and more than that, knowing that we're creating history right now, and so we need to put money in the...
In the hands of queer and trans artists and just people that are doing incredibly good work.
And, you know, it goes all the way back even to Nazi Germany.
Like, in addition to persecuting Jews, the first thing they did was loot and put on fire all of the research that had been done in
the premier center for sexual and gender health that they were doing in Germany at the time.
So that is really well noted and taken.
So thank you for that.
