Stevens presses Garner for specific policies, timelines, and milestones
Stevens asks for an action plan with dates, milestones, and goals for recruiting and integrating Black, Hispanic, and women-owned businesses. Garner cites weekly agency meetings, upcoming commissioner roundtables, and SBS recruitment efforts but does not provide a detailed timeline.
And so could you talk about some of the policies that you're creating to actually do that?
What does that look like?
What are the steps are you taking?
Do you have like an action plan?
Do you have dates and like milestones and goals?
I would love to like get into the nitty gritty of it so that we can have a better understanding because I understand, yes, increasing from 23 to 33 sounds great, but it sounds like we're still targeting specific.
Groups that are in this group.
Because I'm looking at the numbers, right?
And so Asian males got 13,337 contracts, whereas, again, Black women got 300.
Let's go to the Black men.
Black men organizations got 1,045.
So how are we even diversifying in that?
these groups like I great that it increased by that percent but it's not being diversified so could you talk about some policies and like a timeline of what this would look like
in the next six months are you like other than like saying we're recruitment what does that recruitment look like could just give some details because I think that like this is like really important for us to make sure that we have a plan and if not like definitely happy to like brainstorm around that but I think that it's really important
yeah yes it is and we and we we uh share your concern we are meeting every week with agencies, looking at best practices, focusing on the lack of contract awards that's going to women.
We are instituting a roundtable discussion with agency commissioners in a very, very short period of time.
We are going to be working with our agencies and also SBS in, once again, recruiting
these businesses, giving them, equipping them with all of the resources that they need, and finally, once again, integrating them into the procurement process.
