Council Member Brewer asks how CUNY funds study abroad opportunities
Council Member Gale Brewer says private high schools offer abroad programs and asks whether CUNY has a central grant for study abroad. She asks how funding is assembled from foreign governments, U.S. sources, New York, philanthropy, and foundations.
Councilmember Dynowitz, question?
Councilmember Brewer?
Thank you very much.
It's so important.
Even the private high schools have abroad programs now because I was with some students and they're off to wherever, South Africa in this case.
So my question is, how do you go about the funding?
I teach at Hunter.
I see all the signs up.
You can go here.
You can go there on the bulletin boards.
But I worry who's going to be able to go here and there.
So my question is, is there a central CUNY grant for these kinds of opportunities?
I remember years ago, I have to say the Eisenhowers and the Bushes and so on, some of the more conservative heritage type have funding that I know some of the public school students have taken advantage of in the past.
It doesn't exist now and it won't exist for another three years probably.
So my question is, how do you go about the funding and what can we do in that sphere?
Because this doesn't happen.
Either it's foreign government's pain, it's U.S.
Pain, it's New York, it's somebody.
Philanthropy, foundations, how do you go about getting that funding?
