Gutiérrez asks about program longevity and enrollment decline
Gutiérrez asks how long pre-K dual-language programs have existed and what happens when enrollment declines. She cites a Japanese dual-language program that closed and asks how NYCPS supports schools.
I mean, it might all be different, but has it been like in the last five years or so?
There are different, you know, there are programs that, you know,
have been developed, I guess, you know, more recently, but the majority of them was definitely during the last expansion under the de Blasio administration.
Okay.
And are there instances where in some of these dual language early childhood programs,
I think of putting my parent hat on.
I want my daughter to be in a dual language Spanish program.
I apply in a pre-K program.
And for some reason in the third or fourth grade, it feels like it's falling apart.
That's not what's happening.
I'm giving you an example.
What does NYCPS do to support schools when maybe enrollment?
Is dwindling.
I have a school in my district that had a Japanese dual language program, and I think they ultimately stopped.
Like they just, the enrollment was very low.
I don't know if the support was fully there, but does, how often does that happen where these schools at some point just, maybe the dual language program is not really a fit?
And what do you do beforehand to support those schools so that they do keep it?
