Gutiérrez asks if ECE definition will remain appropriate across ages
Gutiérrez asks whether the early childhood definition is appropriate long-term and whether framing changes for infants versus pre-K students. Branch says the family-informed approach will continue and applies across ages.
Wow.
Thank you.
Okay.
Excellent.
And I know it's a little, it's obviously different for early childhood education, but what you shared seems simple.
This seems a little more nuanced.
Is there any plan?
Like, does this feel like the appropriate definition for early childhood?
For the foreseeable future.
And I believe it is the most appropriate because,
All of our students are emergent learners, right?
They're emergent language learners.
Some of our students, they come in with very little language, right?
Initially, they're coming in as early as six months.
So we're really looking to the families to share information in terms of what they see as the best approach and utilize that to also honor that in the classroom.
So for the time and the foreseeable future, that will...
Continue to be how we define our emergent language learners in early childhood education.
Thank you.
And does the framing of the question change for a six-month, like the parent of a six-month-old, two-year-old, three-year-old versus a pre-K student where
maybe they have more language and you're asking more about the parent, you know, at six months or two-year-old versus the four-year-old?
Does that framing change or is it?
It's consistent because at the, pretty much at home, whatever language
is introduced at home, whether it's the parent's language or maybe grandma comes over and speaks an additional language, we're really using that information to determine how to best support the child in the classroom.
So it may not even just be that it's a French-speaking household, but maybe, you know, there's grandparents or individuals who come over who speak Spanish as well.
And if the family shares that information with us and, you know, the hope and desire is that the language acquisition is advanced across all of those languages.
We support that.
Okay, excellent.
Thank you.
