Brooks-Powers asks about trauma-informed mental health support for displaced families
Brooks-Powers asks Commissioner Farrell what could be done better to provide trauma-informed mental health support to families displaced by the July 25 incident. Farrell says NYCEM is always looking to improve services and will speak with partners, including Red Cross, NYPD, and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, then follow up.
And Commissioner, in terms of just going back to something we were speaking about earlier with respect to the resources and services such as trauma-informed mental health support
offered to families that are displaced.
After an incident like what took place on July 25th.
What could we do better going forward to be able to address a moment of crisis such as what we experienced?
Yeah.
Like I said, we always are looking at ways that the city as a whole and then specific agencies, nonprofit partners can improve services.
I know that the Red Cross and the NYPD are following up to talk about
specific incidents that are more violence-related and potentially less within emergency management's purview.
But we also work with Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and other agencies.
And so after this hearing, I'm going to go back and speak to our folks and to our partners and just see what additional things can be brought in, what agencies can be brought to bear.
So we will follow up once we have those discussions.
I appreciate that.
