Brooks-Powers asks FDNY how QR code distribution is confirmed
Chair Ariola thanks Williams and recognizes Brooks-Powers. Brooks-Powers asks under Local Law 134 how FDNY confirms that residential fire emergency response guides and QR codes are actually distributed, noting residents did not report seeing QR codes; Sirocco says FDNY does targeted outreach and places QR codes on rigs and apparatus.
Thank you so much.
Councilmember Brooks Powers.
Thank you, Chair.
And I'm going to try to make the last few questions as tight as I can.
I have some for FDNY.
Under Local Law 134, residential fire emergency response guides are required to be provided to affected residents and distributed via QR code on FDNY vehicles
and at post-fire inspections.
Residents did not report seeing any QR codes.
How does the FDNY confirm that the distribution actually took place?
We do targeted outreach.
And for July 25th specifically, I'm sorry.
Well, we do targeted outreach that those QR codes with our...
They're just on the rigs mostly, but we do, people are told that through our fire safety education, those QR codes are available on the rigs, on the apparatus in certain locations.
There's specific locations where we put them.
Also at the scene of any fire, we also
you know, can call out dispatches and have Red Cross respond to any incident that if we feel that people are in need of shelter or if there's a fire and they can't reenter their building.
So those are some of the things that we do to get the word out that we can, that information can be disseminated to the people in your community.
Thank you.
