Thomas Lowy testifies about being hit by an e-bike in Riverside Park
Thomas Lowy describes being hit from behind by a delivery e-bike in Riverside Park, breaking his clavicle and ribs, and calls for extending automobile insurance rules to e-bikes.
Is this on?
Yeah, okay.
Well, I consider myself lucky after hearing the previous testimony.
This is what I looked like after I was hit by a e-bike.
I'm a lifelong New Yorker.
I was badly hurt by an e-bike in Riverside Park.
On the bike lane.
Even though the bike lane was marked in those days as prohibited for e-bikes, it was rampant with them.
And a delivery driver hit me from behind, knocked me down, broke my clavicle, couple of ribs, and of course these horrible bruises.
I believe that New York and indeed America developed a system in response to auto accidents at the beginning of the 20th century.
Insurance companies in cooperation with the states made mandatory insurance ubiquitous.
There's no reason to not extend the automobile and truck rules to e-bikes and delivery vans.
The cost is enormous.
The hospital charges were, if I didn't have insurance, would have been devastating, and I'm sure for many people they are devastating.
Without insurance, we can't go on this way.
That's what I have to say.
Thank you.
