Aldebol asks if staff roles will change dramatically under OCS
Aldebol asks whether the move to OCS will dramatically restructure staff roles. Delany-Brumsey says no dramatic change is anticipated for NGBV programs, but OCS will restructure to provide expertise and operational support; Sethi says core functions remain prevention, direct services, advocacy, research, evaluation, and training.
Do you foresee a restructuring or dramatic change in staff roles given the move to OCS?
I don't see a dramatic change in the way that NGBV is staffing their programs at this point.
We have not been able to.
I anticipate that what we will be doing is ensuring that we have the appropriate staffing across our entire team.
And that as we're building out our survivor and victim services, we will continue to do that work with NGBV, with the other offices.
But we will be restructuring, but it's too soon to know exactly what that will look like.
The purpose of the restructuring will be to ensure that we have all of the necessary expertise to do the work of domestic and gender-based violence prevention, all of the necessary expertise to do the work of hate crime prevention.
Of building out behavioral health services, of preventing gun and community-based violence.
So that's the North Star for that kind of restructuring, and that all of those offices have the kind of operational support that they need to do their work.
whether that's contracting, budgets, administrative support, all of that, which is really necessary as you grow an office from what it is today to what we will hopefully be in the future, which is significantly larger.
And I'll say all the core functions of NGBV, I think, are critical to what OCS is going to do, right?
Which the core functions are prevention, direct services, advocacy, research, evaluation, and training.
Those are things that are always going to be part of whatever we're doing as NGBV and as part of OCS.
Thank you.
Thank you, Chair.
And I'll turn it over to Councilmember Gutierrez.
