Chair Louis asks applicant how 12 parking spaces were determined
Chair Louis notes parking is below the waiver threshold and asks how the applicant chose 12 spaces; Lobel explains the community board appreciated some parking for nonprofit pickup and drop-off and employees.
Thank you so much.
I have a few questions, and I'll hand it over to Councilmember Shulman.
Given the number, that the number of required parking spaces is below the waiver threshold, as a result, you do not have to provide parking.
How did you determine 12 spaces was the correct number of parking spots to provide?
Could you provide more information?
Yeah, I'll start, and if the remainder of the applicant team has any comments, they can bring those.
We have a rezoning which was approved by the subcommittee today, 6967 108th Street, as a matter of public record, a building several blocks away which did not provide parking.
The community board here was happy that we were providing some parking, and it is always kind of a push and pull in terms of the availability of mass transit and the demands at the site.
Here, I think the fact that there's going to be nonprofits operating here, which are going to have some pickup and drop-offs, it was useful to have some parking on the site, as well as some employees in terms of the nonprofit and the child care.
So 12 spaces was a chance to bring a limited amount of cars off the street, provide some flexibility in that regard.
The community board was appreciative of that.
They didn't really condition the application on that, but it seemed like just a minimal number of spots we can provide, and we were happy to do it.
