Chair Gutiérrez asks about enrollment numbers and age eligibility
Gutiérrez asks how many students are currently enrolled and expected by year-end. Liss says over 2,000 are enrolled, with data to be released in November. She explains age eligibility rules for center-based vs. family child care.
How many students are currently enrolled in 2K seats for 2026-2027?
So at this moment, we have over 2,000 children in our 2K program.
We will release preliminary 2K enrollment data alongside our broader enrollment reporting in November when we release 3K through 12 enrollment data.
And can you share how many 2K students you expect to be enrolled by the end of the calendar year?
Because I know kids turn two throughout the year, so maybe they're not all enrolled.
But do you have a sense of how many will be enrolled?
How many do you anticipate to be enrolled by the end of the year?
Our goal has always been to serve at least 2,000 children this year.
And again, we'll have the data available by the end of the year.
For children who are not yet two, I will note that families who applied and received an offer to 2K were able to do so as so long as their child is turning two in 2026.
For center-based care, families have to wait until their child's second birthday to start.
That's because of the health code.
They have to be 24 months to be in that classroom.
So those children were given a delayed start date.
So if your birthday was November 15th, you can start services immediately thereafter.
Children can start services in family child care settings in a 2K seat prior to two.
So for children with fourth quarter birthdays who received an offer to a family child care setting, they could begin even prior to their second birthday.
