Liss describes provider types and program models for 2K
Liss notes that 2K is offered in community-based centers and family child care programs, not public schools. The default model is full day, full year, with some school-day options.
After the first five districts were announced in March, the team at New York City Public Schools worked tirelessly to bring early care and education providers into the 2K program.
2K is offered in community-based child care centers and licensed family child care programs.
There is no 2K in public school buildings.
The 2K sites are inclusive of providers who already contracted with the city to offer 3K and pre-K services, as well as new providers who applied to a request for information and were awarded new contracts to offer 2K.
The default model for 2K is full day, full year, recognizing that working families need full-time child care that maps to their schedules.
We also recognize that not all families have the same schedules or care needs, and so there are some 2K programs that operate on a school day in your calendar.
