Liss details application outreach and offer results
Liss describes the all-of-government outreach effort, including advertising and a jingle contest. Over 5,700 applications were received for 2,000 seats; 99% of families received an offer to a listed program, 59% to their top choice.
Families were able to apply for the first 2,000 2K seats in June, and we mounted an all-of-government effort to ensure that families knew about 2K, knew how to apply, and had the support to do so if needed.
The city and community partners were on the ground in communities providing application assistance to families.
We advertised in local and ethnic media, leveraged social and new media, posted ads in multiple languages on LinkNYC terminals and in high-traffic small businesses.
We hosted a 2K jingle contest with celebrity judges Cardi B and Lin-Manuel Miranda to bring attention to the program, and we ran a 2K for 2K race in Inwood.
We are grateful to the many council members who partnered with us on events and helped spread the word.
their communities.
In total, we received more than 5,700 applications for the first 2,000 2K seats.
This overwhelming demand demonstrates why we need to move with urgency to continue expanding access to care.
In August, we made just over 2,000 2K offers to families who had applied.
The majority of families who received a 2K offer were given an offer to one of their top choices.
99% of families received an offer to a program choice that they had listed on their application.
And among applicants who received offers, 82% received an offer to one of their top three choices, and 59% received an offer to their top choice.
Families who did not receive an offer were automatically placed on wait lists for any programs they applied to and were also encouraged to explore other program options and add themselves to those wait lists as well.
Since August, we have also seen hundreds of additional families who did not originally apply to 2K add themselves to program wait lists.
