Maloney asks about technology and expanding BID enforcement powers
Ortiz clarifies DOT is not an on-street enforcement agency. Maloney asks about technology to track pedicab locations and whether BIDs could get enforcement powers; Ortiz says BIDs are good partners and DCWP is working on automated interagency reporting.
Can I also just clarify something I think I was imprecise about?
NYPD and the Parks Department are the primary enforcement agencies on the street.
The DOT is not involved in the enforcement side of that picture.
One other, I want to introduce two solutions, creative solutions to try to get to enforcement, which it sounds like we all agree is one of the biggest issues.
Are there technologies that are being explored to ensure that pedicabs are operating where they're supposed to, are not standing?
And then bids often have jurisdiction or are supporting many of the areas where pedicabs are operating.
Is there a way that the enforcement powers could be expanded to bids?
Or any other creative solutions you have to help us get to the enforcement issue as fast as possible.
Yeah, I would say the bids have been great partners to us on this issue.
I would certainly be interested in looking into more of how we can support one another in terms of any enforcement activities.
The first part of your question, I'm sorry.
Technologies that could be explored or any other ideas for how to get to enforcement, which it sounds like we all agree is the biggest challenge here.
Yeah, so we are looking to create greater connections via automated reports between agencies so that we can get that information on a regular basis and move quicker.
That work is ongoing.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you, Councilmember Maloney.
