Wilson questions DCWP on registration cap and license revocation
Council Member Carl Wilson asks whether the 840-vehicle cap is reached; Ortiz says only 330 are registered and perhaps 1,200 are unregistered. Wilson asks what violations can revoke a license, and Ortiz says adjudicated violations or voided insurance can lead to suspension or revocation.
I want to turn it over to some of my colleagues.
I know Councilmember Wilson and then Councilmember Brewer.
Thank you, Chair.
So you said, sorry, I missed your testimony, but I'm reading it here, that the number of pedicab vehicles is capped at 840.
That's correct.
Are we at that cap?
Currently, there are 330 registered vehicles with the city.
How many do you suspect are not registered?
My understanding of some of the public reporting out there, that there could be approximately 1,200 unlicensed or unregistered vehicles.
And when a vehicle license is issued, there are terms which would cause them to lose that license, right?
That's correct.
And what are some of those?
Are things like noise or traffic violations part of what you would use to revoke a license?
It would be a certain number of violations adjudicated over a period of time that would allow us to go and try to revoke or suspend a license.
But do you see...
Go ahead, please finish.
Additionally, there are certain requirements specifically in this industry related to, for example, insurance.
And in the case of an insurance of a pedicab business is...
Is voided for any particular reason, we would void the license as well.
