Aldebol asks why some employees are not covered by city EAP
Aldebol asks why certain employees are excluded from the NYC EAP; Pollack explains uniformed agencies like NYPD, DOC, sanitation, and fire run their own EAP programs with peer counselors, and OLR coordinates with them.
So on the OLR website, it indicates that EAPs are available to employees of non-uniformed agencies.
Can you describe the rationale for why certain city employees may not be covered by New York City EAP and what alternative options are available to them?
Of course.
So the reason they're not covered is because each uniformed agency has its own employee assistance program.
So the NYPD has one, DOC, sanitation, fire, they all have their own programs with their own kind of infrastructure.
So we do coordinate with those programs and we'll assist them if we can provide assistance.
There have at times been initiatives where we've worked with those agencies more closely and to help them out.
It's not a matter of not wanting to serve those employees.
We really want to serve anyone.
But, you know, they essentially have their own infrastructure.
And a lot of the time, especially with the uniformed agencies, there's value in having someone who really understands that agency and that job.
You know, for example, I think often they have like peer counselors who may be in the same title as that workforce.
So that's kind of the background behind that.
