Hanif reads statement on rainbow infinity symbol and bill purpose

New York City Council · Oct 16, 2026 · starts 0:13:43 · 36 sec

The statement says autism and neurodivergence are not problems to be solved but communities to celebrate. It describes the rainbow infinity symbol and says Reso 510 would declare June 18 Autistic Pride Day in New York City.

Shahana K. Hanif

And I want to make it clear, autism and neurodivergence is not a problem to be solved, but instead a community to be celebrated.

Shahana K. Hanif

The symbol of this day is a rainbow infinity sign, which is fitting to embody the infinite diversity, potential, and future of the autism and neurodivergent community.

Shahana K. Hanif

This is why my bill, Reso 510, will declare June 18th annually as Autistic Pride Day in New York City.

Shahana K. Hanif

This bill will make sure that this community that is far too often neglected or unsupported will get the recognition, respect, and visibility they deserve.
