Menin asks how many employees work on AI safety
Menin repeatedly asks how many SpaceX AI employees are dedicated to safety, security, and cybersecurity risks; Castillo-Madrid says she does not have the number and that safety is embedded company-wide, and Menin demands the answer by the end of testimony.
How many SpaceX AI employees are principally dedicated to identifying, evaluating, and mitigating safety, security, and cybersecurity risks associated with your frontier AI models?
We have a robust safety team, and safety is...
I'm sorry, how many?
I'm sorry, could you repeat that?
We have a robust safety team and safety is embedded into our...
But how many?
How many employees?
I don't have the number with me right now, but what I can say is that safety is at the core of everything we do.
And it's core to not just our engineers and our safety, but everybody in the company is bought into the importance of safety.
Like I mentioned earlier, we're launching rockets into space.
And obviously to get to that place, we need to make sure that
Safety is at the forefront of everything we do.
This seems like a very rudimentary question, how many people are dedicated to
on the safety team relative to the company as a whole?
This seems like a very basic question.
I understand your question.
The way we see it is everybody is in charge of safety, and we make sure that if anybody sees something, they say it and report it quick.
I think it would assure the public far more if we got a straightforward answer on actually how many people at the company are dedicated to evaluating the safety models.
This is a very basic question, and I'm going to ask that by the end of the testimony, you provide that answer to us.
Madam Speaker, we'll get on that.
Thank you.
