Alan Sherman calls for teaching compromise and respect
Alan Sherman says first graders should learn how government works and how to respectfully disagree. He argues compromise is essential and that indoctrination should not be part of education.
See, one thing I have noticed, the basics, grade one.
Are not being taught how government works.
How, oh, I don't agree with you, but let's have our coffee.
We need to be able to respect each other.
Just respectfully disagree.
First graders should not be drinking coffee.
But you know my point.
You know my point.
But the thing is, is that other than baseball, we need to be able to compromise on everything.
Okay?
I mean, it's like, I don't care what planet you're from.
I don't care what...
Country you're from.
We're all human.
And if we don't teach that to our children, there's no way our government will work.
Because you hear too many stories on the news about college professors indoctrinating their students one way or the other.
Those people should not have those jobs.
People need to learn how to work together to keep the peace, to get through life.
