Jared Fajardo describes teaching students about city council
Jared Fajardo says many students do not know what the city council is or does. He explains that he has to teach that local officials have more power in communities than the president.
From my experience facilitating civic engagement workshops right now at Lehman, it's quite difficult because a lot of students, they don't know what the city council is or what the city council does.
And we had to go over that.
So many times because I had to explain to them that you guys have more power in the local communities than the president, you know,
because young students, young adults, they just turn out to vote when it comes to presidential elections and when it comes to
city council or the ones that are going to happen the midterms in November.
So I had to go over that and, you know, spend time in that topic.
