Q&A

Joseph asks CUNY how credit awards are publicized

New York City Council · Oct 20, 2026 · starts 0:40:32 · 1 min 36 sec

Joseph asks whether credit awards are publicized to prospective students. Vine says CUNY lists credit awards on a website and in the Transfer Explorer tool, and will do the same for Civic Readiness once colleges award credit.

Rita C. Joseph

Is that also publicized to prospective students coming into the CUNY system?

Alyssa Vine

Well, when we have coordinated system-wide evaluation of different learning experiences, once colleges have decided to award credit and those credit awards are in place,

Alyssa Vine

For example, in the case of the seal of biliteracy, we have a website that lists all of the CUNY colleges that award credit and what those credit awards are.

Alyssa Vine

Also, the information is entered into CUNY's student information system.

Alyssa Vine

So it is searchable in CUNY's public-facing searchable database, CUNY's Transfer Explorer tool.

Alyssa Vine

So that is available as well.

Rita C. Joseph

Is that also for civic readiness or just for biliteracy?

Alyssa Vine

Well, at this time, since there aren't any colleges that are awarding credit for civic readiness, there aren't examples of that in place.

Alyssa Vine

But we definitely have a model for making sure that that information is publicized as soon as there are colleges that are awarding credit for it.

Rita C. Joseph

And how do you plan on, will that also be added to the website as you've done for the biliteracy?

Alyssa Vine

Yes, we would absolutely create a visible website where

Alyssa Vine

students and high school counselors and teachers and families can find the information about where credit is available across the system.
