Joseph asks League of Women Voters about youth voting decline
Joseph asks what is driving low youth participation. Susie Gomes says the League hopes to study why people do not vote with Baruch and lacks empirical data now, but offers to discuss further.
You talked about lack of young people participating.
What do you think that's driving that?
Is it because we're not, what are we not doing right?
Take the mic so I can hear you.
That is an excellent question.
We actually at the League are looking to work with a division of CUNY through Baruch
that is, we are hoping to create a study to understand why people don't vote.
It would be something I don't think anybody in the country has really undertaken that way.
I can give you anecdotal information, but it's not empirical and it's not worthy of the council's time right now.
Sorry.
We'll have a conversation another time.
I think I visited your project at Floyd Bennett Field.
You did.
Yes, I did.
It will be an amazing project.
I can't wait to see it.
Thank you so much for your support.
Really appreciate it.
Yes, yes.
Vision High School, let's get this done.
It's important.
Every single one of you, which you mentioned on the panel, is so important.
How do we get young people engaged in environment?
But there's so many other factors that I see with young people.
Like, how can I think about environment when I don't have housing?
When I'm food insecurity, those things.
play a factor in determining your priorities.
So I think they all tie in together.
Thank you so much.
