Ryle explains external partner accreditation and newsletter

New York City Council · Oct 20, 2026 · starts 1:06:03 · 48 sec

Ryle says DOE encourages schools to collaborate with local civics organizations and sends a newsletter with opportunities. She says external organizations can accredit projects, citing YVote as an example.

Jenna Ryle

Yeah, so external partners have a number of opportunities and ways that they can engage with schools.

Jenna Ryle

First off, while we provide everything that a school could need to build the seal of civic readiness through New York City public schools, we do encourage them to collaborate with civics education organizations that may be local to them.

Jenna Ryle

In terms of citywide, we have a newsletter that we send out to all of our schools with those opportunities.

Jenna Ryle

And then also external organizations can accredit projects that they do with students for the seal of civic readiness.

Jenna Ryle

So an example would be YVote right now.

Jenna Ryle

I just had a conversation with their executive director a few weeks ago, and they are planning to submit the project that they do with students in their extracurricular program for accreditation.

Gale A. Brewer

I don't want to keep more time, but could you send us a newsletter to see if I like it?

Jenna Ryle

Sure.

Gale A. Brewer

Thank you.

Jenna Ryle

Happy to do that.
