Veve recounts Civics for All history and resources
Veve says NYC Public Schools launched Civics for All in 2018 as part of Democracy NYC. She describes K-12 curriculum, school partnerships, participatory budgeting, student programming, teacher learning, and social studies comic books.
In order to place the seal in the appropriate context, it's helpful to know that New York City Public Schools first designed and implemented Civics for All, our civics learning initiative,
beginning in the spring of 2018, when it was announced as part of Mayor de Blasio's Democracy NYC plan.
With the support of K-12 educators and New York City cultural institutions, the Department of Social Studies and Civics built a multifaceted initiative, including a K-12 curriculum,
school-based partnerships, a participatory budgeting program, student-facing programming, and teacher professional learning.
Beginning in 2020, an extensive collection of social studies and civic comic books supplemented these efforts.
Some people love them.
These resources have been available to all schools in New York City public schools since their creation, with our team now supporting Civics for All implementation in 35 partner districts.
Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every single New York City public school student has access to high-quality civics education from kindergarten through 12th grade.
