Abreu asks about Blue Highways progress and micro freight
Fredrickson says downtown Skyport construction starts soon for Blue Highways berthing; Regan says pilots tested Pier 79 and East 34th Street dockings.
What progress has the city made toward the goals in the action plan?
So we're not only exploring and evaluating sites, we're actually advancing them further.
So one example is the downtown Skyport, formerly known as the downtown Manhattan heliport.
As part of that re-procurement, we added a requirement to build out a Blue Highways birthing infrastructure, and we are
in a couple weeks beginning construction there.
So some more to come on that front, and that landing will open by the end of next year.
So this is like real construction beginning to take place on a key node to lower Manhattan.
And we're doing this across the city as well.
As part of the action plan, DOT committed to test the feasibility of using DOT ferry landings to receive micro freight.
What steps has the OC taken to move this proposal forward?
Correct.
So in conjunction with EDC, we did run a test pilot to Pier 79, which is a New York City DOT-owned ferry landing.
We also have done some test.
Blue highways dockings at the East 34th Street ferry landing to see the feasibility of using that landing for operations.
And then, like I said, we did modify our private ferry operator license to give existing operators the opportunity to move micro freight on their ferry boats, obviously within Coast Guard regulation.
Thank you.
