Banks asks about ferry at Shirley Chisholm Park and state talks

New York City Council · Oct 20, 2026 · starts 1:15:28 · 1 min 11 sec

Banks describes his district as an affordable housing hub and transit desert; Wong says there have been no substantive talks with state parks but will follow up.

Shaun Abreu

Council Member Banks?

Shaun Abreu

Sorry, I didn't give you a heads up.

James Wong

That was coming.

James Wong

You ready?

Chris Banks

Yeah, thank you.

Chris Banks

Thank you, Chiz.

Chris Banks

First of all, I just want to say that my district is a unique district.

Chris Banks

We are actually, a portion of the district has created probably the largest amount of affordable housing throughout the city.

Chris Banks

And then the other portion, which is the East Flatbush, is part of the bottom 12.

Chris Banks

And when we're talking about the expansion of transportation, we want, obviously, we want to look at every, you know, option.

Chris Banks

And we also know that we have the Shirley Chisholm Park, which is obviously a space that is heavily utilized.

Chris Banks

Has there been any talks with the state?

Chris Banks

As you do know, that is a state park to possibly consider there for possibly having it be a ferry.

Chris Banks

Or have a ferry at Churchill's Park?

James Wong

I haven't had a substantive conversation with state parks about it, but happy to do some follow-up.
