Abreu asks if West 125th is ripe for ferry service
Wong says there is no federal land ownership issue and an existing landing makes it easier, but it is premature to prejudge the vision study.
I don't want to get ahead of the study results, but are you optimistic of something happening on West 125th Street?
You know, in your testimony, you mentioned that there were some jurisdictional issues with respect to some of those sites.
We don't have those jurisdictional issues along West 125th Street.
Is that right?
Correct.
There's not a federal land ownership piece.
So given that, I mean, doesn't that make it more ripe for a place for ferry service?
I think what I would say is that because there's an existing landing there, I'm certainly not saying that you cannot operate a ferry.
You can technically operate a ferry to the site.
I think that when we go through the vision study, what we're really trying to do is make sure that not only from the capital side, but from an operating cost perspective and understanding,
you know, how do these things
all fit together.
I think it's premature right now to sort of prejudge what the outcome of that vision study is going to be, but there is definitely a landing there which makes it a little bit easier when you're talking about new services.
And I'm sure Councilmember De La Rosa also has a lot to add shortly on a ferry service for the north to La Marina and also Althea in the West Bronx.
We put out an op-ed this morning calling for
more interconnectedness along our waters or waterways uptown in the West Bronx.
And we hope that in the study that the EDC takes those requests very, very seriously.
