Q&A

Aldebol asks about vision study metrics and economic impact

New York City Council · Oct 20, 2026 · starts 1:20:54 · 1 min 6 sec

Wong says the study will examine ridership, demographics, transit access, commercial corridors, site suitability, and economic impact.

Shirley Aldebol

And what are the key metrics that you're looking at and how are you tracking them?

James Wong

As part of the vision, we're going to be looking, as we have, at things like ridership and the people who are living in neighborhoods, demographics.

James Wong

existing access to transit, commercial corridors, things like that, to understand what the land uses are at nearby ferry requests.

James Wong

We also want to make sure that we're looking, are there viable sites for ferry landings in neighborhoods that have adequate depth, that have the right kind of water conditions and upland conditions that are really going to be supportive of neighborhoods.

James Wong

So we'll look at a lot of different things like that.

Shirley Aldebol

Are you also considering the potential impact that ferry service could have on the local economy?

James Wong

Yes, we take a look at the land uses nearby and like I was saying, are there commercial corridors and things like that that we can identify as hotspots where if you have ferry service, could this be supportive?
