Aldebol asks how vision study differs from prior City Island studies
Wong says the vision study looks beyond NYC Ferry to alternative operators, funding models, and seasonal or weekend service.
Councilmember Aldebar, followed by Thomas Henry Dandela Rosa.
You, in your testimony, and thank you for coming here today, in your testimony you talked about your vision study.
How will this vision study be different from prior studies for the City Island area, including Orchard Beach?
Thank you for the question.
As I've been talking about it, we're trying to drive home the idea that this is bigger than just NYC Ferry.
I think NYC Ferry, which did have a large growth spread and has come online over the last 10 years, is one kind of ferry service.
What we want to look at through the vision study is whether or not there are alternative ways to provide service.
Thinking about it operationally, are there different operators?
Are there different funding models?
Are there different ways?
Do we want to talk about seasonal service?
Do we want to talk about weekend service?
There are different ways other than what NYC Ferry provides, which is, as I had mentioned, sort of a seven-day-a-week 365 service.
And we think that it's important because that gives us more opportunities to think about things in different ways.
