Aviles asks who tracks economic impact of ferry in Red Hook
Aviles says EDC should track economic impacts; Wong cites press coverage but no on-the-ground data; Aviles notes visitors often take cabs away.
Councilmember Aviles, followed by Wong.
about the next hearing I have to be at a couple minutes.
So I'd like to follow up on who's collecting data on the economic impact of the ferry and Red Hook?
Since you referenced Red Hook and seeing so much benefit, who's collecting that data?
Pardon me.
We don't have on the ground data.
What I was referring to, there was press coverage earlier this summer that just talked about the sort of waves of people that are coming into the community throughout the summer.
Yeah, lots of people coming in.
Yeah, it would be great.
I mean, this is a conversation, obviously.
We have been trying very hard to actually get
EDC to connect with the local community, to engage in full comprehensive work to connect the assets of the local community so that benefits stay.
What we do see a lot of is people coming into Red Hook and getting in cabs and going away.
So I think this is an ongoing piece of work, but I think
for the Economic Development Agency would behoove them to certainly track with clarity the economic impacts of the investments that are being made in the local communities that bear the brunt.
But that wasn't it.
actually part of my questions.
