Menin cites 13:00.9 average response time and calls for living wage
Menin says the Mayor's Management Report shows an average response time of 13 minutes and 0.9 seconds, which she calls unacceptable. She notes brain cells begin to die after four minutes without oxygen and urges the city to pay EMS workers a living wage.
And there have been many cases where people's lives are literally on the line.
We've seen in the mayor's management report, the recent report came out, that the average response time is 13 minutes, 0.9 seconds.
This is totally and wholly unacceptable.
So as we wait for wages to increase, response times are increasing to truly unacceptable levels.
We know that brain cells begin to die after four minutes without oxygen.
So the idea that we are now at an average response time of 13 minutes, 0.9 seconds is just wholly unconscionable.
We must act now to pay those who provide the life-saving work a living wage and to ensure that New Yorkers in crisis can truly get the care they need.
So thank you, and I will now turn it over to Chair Areola for continued questioning.
