Chair asks CLO responsibilities; Dessimore describes youth part and family court roles
Brooks-Powers asks what responsibilities court liaison officers currently perform. Dessimore says youth part CLOs track arraignments, removals to family court, ICM cases, and court updates, while family court CLOs provide background, risk level, ATD information, and progress reports.
For the Bronx, we have two in family court.
And beginning on November 2nd, we will have two in the youth part.
And then in Manhattan, we have two in family court.
And then in Brooklyn, we have three in family court, and we have one in the youth part.
And in Staten Island, we have a hybrid where the CLO covers the youth part and family court.
Thank you for that.
What responsibilities do court liaison officers currently perform?
We'll start with the youth part, and I will say that the judges are very pleased that they have the CLOs back.
So for the youth part, the CLO is responsible for tracking any arraignment
for the purpose of whether or not the young person is going to be removed to family court and making sure that they have all the necessary information and documents to forward to their colleagues at intake.
Also, they track any case where the judge is placing a young person on an ICM or voluntary services.
And then they also provide the updates for the courts in all parties.
Thank you.
In all parties when the young person appears at the adjournments.
And any information that the court, any questions they will answer that the court has with regards to those young people that may be on ICM or those cases that are being removed.
They also speak to the families as the cases are being removed to family court to give them this information.
Of course, and also now the notice of rights.
Thank you for that.
