Chair asks how academy changes affect readiness; Torres says core requirements plus added training
Brooks-Powers asks how the current academy structure affects new officers' readiness. Torres says DOP optimized the academy by focusing on core requirements, supplementing them with additional training, and reducing field time because graduates receive hands-on training on the job.
And how has the current structure of the academy affected the new officers' readiness?
By strategically optimizing it, what we did was get down to the core requirements that are needed.
With addition to those core requirements, we supplement those requirements with additional training as well.
Some of the training that we saw before, there was an extended period of field training out in the field itself.
So what we did was we reduced the time that they were out in the field to provide more training for them because they were going to get hands-on training as soon as they graduate from there.
So it was all about optimizing and planning ahead to ensure that we increase the level of training modalities, but also the effectiveness of it when they are operational.
