Brewer asks about individual apartments above OACs
Brewer notes many centers have apartments above them and asks if individual apartment complaints are part of the discussion. McKenzie says DFTA only gets involved if it impacts the center, like a leak. She says caseworkers would escalate NYCHA-related issues for older adults through the biweekly meetings.
Okay, one other quick question.
Individual apartments.
I think a lot of your centers have apartments over them, not all, but many.
And so I do.
I have a lot of centers with apartments over them.
So my question is, as part of this discussion, are we also discussing the individual apartments?
In other words, when people have complaints, and they do, they bring them to us, then what is that part of this overall metrics and how are we fixing them and that kind of thing?
Do you look at that at the same time?
From the DIFTA side, only if it impacts.
our center.
So if it's something, a leak, then of course, right, then we would deal with NYCHA.
But if there's a noise complaint or something else that might impact services, obviously, yes, we would work along with NYCHA.
But if your caseworkers hear that Mrs.
Jones's mold is not being assessed and fixed, then I guess you would also hear about it.
You bring it to NYCHA and we would go back and forth, then you call Gail.
Yes.
So I'm just saying, do you get some sense from your caseworkers that there is a responsiveness to the individuals living upstairs, et cetera?
Absolutely there is.
And if they are not responsive, then that's where we fall into the framework that we discussed earlier, where we have those biweekly meetings with our liaison
and also with NITRA leadership and DIFTA leadership so that we can address something that may be outside of our purview, obviously, if an
older adult in one of our centers is having a problem that's a NITRA-related issue, but we would certainly escalate it to NITRA's attention that this older adult needs help and these are the issues that are concerning them.
Okay.
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you.
