Zhuang asks about power outages at OACs
Zhuang asks how power outages at OACs are handled. Trimble says NYCHA emergency services works with providers, sends robocalls, and coordinates with NYC Aging to make accommodations. During this summer's outages, they sometimes referred people to nearby centers. Zhuang asks if NYCHA or DFTA handles it; Trimble says it is a partnership.
And the follow-up question.
So we test the heat and the cooling system.
If there's any emergency,
Outage, power outage, do we have any way to deal with that in the OACs?
Yes, thank you, Council Member.
When we experience a power outage, NYCHA's emergency services works with the provider to provide information.
We send out robocalls just as we do with our residents.
And, you know, depending on the length of outage, we will work with NYC Aging and the provider to make accommodations as needed.
This summer we had quite a few instances of power outages, and so we'll sometimes refer to nearby centers as needed.
And it really depends on the length and the condition of the outage.
So is this always a different handle this issue or it's a NITRA handle this issue?
It's in partnership.
So if it's an outage that's impacting our buildings, we will coordinate with the provider and with NYC Aging to ensure that programs can continue somewhere.
And then we'll make sure that we're giving them information as to the length of the outage, the cause, and any restoration times.
