Chair Brooks-Powers asks whether BOC analyzed quality of services
Brooks-Powers asks if BOC has analyzed the quality of services for pregnant or postpartum people. Cintron Hernandez says medical privacy limits full-scale analysis, but BOC monitors the nursery and addresses complaints.
And then have you ever done an analysis as to the quality of services offered to pregnant or postpartum people in Department of Correction custody?
And if so, what were the results?
So if we're talking about an analysis in terms of medical care, know that there are certain limits in wanting to do that in full scale.
It will require, for example, access to information that is...
Limited to us because of medical privacy laws.
However, we do keep a close eye on those individuals.
We keep a close eye on the nursery.
We tour the nursery closely.
We make sure that when people are out to their court appearances, that there's someone within DOC taking appropriate care of the child that is left behind.
And we received any complaints about the nursery and addressed those.
But I don't believe we received any complaints about the nursery conditions themselves recently, besides the rec yard that was damaged a few years ago.
