Chair Farías asks BOC about young adults in pregnancy housing or nursery
Farías asks whether BOC is aware of young adults ages 18 to 21 in pregnancy housing or the nursery. Augustin says she has not checked ages but would not be surprised, and notes pregnant women are housed in general population.
Are you folks aware of any young adults ages 18 to 21 housing any pregnancy housing or in the nursery program?
I'll pass that on to Director Augustine or AAD Gladman.
Yes.
So to be honest, I haven't looked to see, to check the ages of the women who are pregnant within the facilities.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are women who identify as being young adults and who are pregnant within the department's custody.
What I find interesting, though, is that they're interviewing the women, as Chair Brooks-Powers mentioned, with having to find where these women are housed.
Again, they're housed among general population, and the services that they're looking for, it's not necessarily as easy for them to access because they would technically have to leave the housing unit in order to get access to those services.
But yeah, to answer the question in short, not 100% sure, but it is something that we can follow up on if necessary.
Yeah.
We can follow up.
We can check the ages of the people who are currently pregnant in custody and follow up.
That would be helpful.
I mean, I was also just going to see if the monthly census helps provide some of that data.
Whether that indicating we have young adults in either the nursery program or, but if not, it would be interesting for us to kind of start looking at that and pulling that data.
