Long calls coming Medicaid changes a crisis and details preparation
Long describes H&H's preparation, including financial counseling teams and maximizing NYC Care capacity through a care team model with treat-to-target nurses and clinical pharmacists. He says H&H will do everything so nobody is turned away.
Yeah, that is, in my view, this is going to be a crisis.
It's going to be a crisis with up to 900,000 New Yorkers at risk for losing Medicaid.
The difference between this crisis and COVID, as you brought up earlier, though, is that we can see this coming.
So we're doing many things right now to strengthen our resources to help you to stay on insurance and to strengthen the NYC Care Program.
In terms of, just to quickly, I'll just say in a line, we're putting teams together to help you with.
Financial counseling, things like that that you would need.
And on the NYC Care side, what we're doing to get ready is to make sure that we're maximizing our capacity now.
One of the important ways that we do that is we very carefully built a care team model so that it doesn't need to be me that sees you for every single visit that you need.
It could be our treat-to-target nurse that sees you for your blood pressure or diabetes control, which is a highly effective evidence-based program.
It could be our clinical pharmacist.
That's visits I don't need to have with you to control your diabetes that we can have in a different way.
So we are bolstering our capacity to get ready.
We are solidifying our relationships with our community partners.
We see this coming, and as always with New York City Health and Hospitals, we will do everything in our power so that nobody will ever be turned away.
