Hanif asks about public list of worst offenders and penalties
Hanif asks whether there is a public list of worst disability discrimination offenders. Kamuf Ward says the comptroller has an employee dashboard and CCHR is advocating to increase statutory maximum civil penalties because current caps may not deter.
And we don't have a public list like we do for the worst landlord watch list for agencies or companies, businesses that are the worst of the worst when it comes to...
Actually, this is not a CCHR initiative.
The Comptroller does have an employee dashboard.
It looks at a whole host of different cases.
And so there is something that exists in that arena.
But I wanted to just underscore, and I think we've talked a little bit with the Civil and Human Rights Committee about the kind of the civil penalties as
maybe not serving the same deterrent effect that they served when they were updated in 2005.
And so there's been kind of an affirmative push by CCHR, and we're in conversation, I think, with you all as partners, but with City Hall as well, about increasing the statutory maximum of civil penalties so that they can
truly serve a deterrent effect and to allow there to be discretion that matches the wide variety of cases that we see.
We don't have a per violation statute.
We look at an array of factors for civil penalties, and I think that's an area of collaboration.
